Experience the Wonder of Christmas Advent Devotional

It doesn’t need to be said: 2020 was a hard year. The congregation of First Pres felt it too. They couldn’t gather to worship regularly and as Christmas drew into view, they knew traditions of celebrating together would have to be let go in order to keep themselves and loved ones safe.

First Pres saw this coming and decided to create an advent devotional that would be a gift to the congregation and allow them to draw near to God even if they were stuck at home for the holidays. For our first project meeting I brought in my copy of She Reads Truth’s Advent 2019 devotional and showed off the airy spreads, refined design, and interactive elements like crafts, songs, and recipes. The team was inspired to make our devotional a real work of art like Advent 2019.

Our muti-department effort was a huge success! After the mailing to the congregation, we had to order more because so many people wanted copies to send to their loved ones. Many made a point to tell me how beautiful the cover (also the image for the advent sermon series) turned out.

The image on the cover was made by painting several layers separately in watercolor, scanning the mini paintings, and carefully arranging them in Photoshop.
